Ratings Race: Almost Human Opens To 9 Million, CW’s Genre Shows All Improve

Last week was a banner week for The CW in the ratings improvement department, while on the other hand most of the bigger network genre shows continued to see slight erosion. The CW saw improvement for all of its genre shows over the previous week’s ratings.

Almost Human gave FOX a strong premiere on Sunday night, with more than 9 million people tuning in after the football game (a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demo). The debut faced another game over on NBC, which started at 8:30 p.m.

Unfortunately, preliminary numbers for yesterday’s second episode show a slip of more than 2 million people and eight tenths in the demo (to a 2.3). We’ll have final numbers in next week’s Ratings Race, and we will continue to keep a close eye on how the new show does in its Monday night home.

The Walking Dead continues to hover around the 12 million mark, keeping it firmly entrenched at the top of our list and among all of cable dramas. Almost Human also had a strong bow, as we said, though Monday’s drop below 7 million is not encouraging.

Once Upon A Time In Wonderland finally got some good news, for a change. Last week was the first time since the premiere that the living audience has gone up instead of down. Along with Grimm‘s surprising leap of almost 20 percent, it was in fact the only genre show on the four big networks to see its ratings go up last week.

Things are also looking bright for The CW, with Arrow back up over 3 million and The Tomorrow People taking a much-needed (if statistically small) uptick. The network also said that Arrow hit its best numbers in a year in the 18-34 demo (+22% week-to-week), and its highest ever among men 18 to 34 (+56%).

Finally, it’s worth noting that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn’t managed to stabilize its ratings yet, and has now lost 45 percent of its premiere audience. The show is clearly still finding its creative footing (and the network seems eager to give it plenty of time to do that), but it has walked itself into something of a PR problem.
