Star Wars: The Acolyte Drops New Trailer

Star Wars explores the era before The Phantom Menace in the new live-action series, premiering June 4.

Happy Star Wars Day!

With the arrival of the short-form series Tales of the Empire today, Disney+ has also revealed the key art for the next show in the Star Wars franchise — along with a brand new trailer. Star Wars: The Acolyte will premiere worldwide on Disney’s streaming service Tuesday, June 4.

Described as a thriller, The Acolyte is set during the waning days of the High Republic era — before the events of Episode I: The Phantom Menace. This is a period in Star Wars history that has recently been explored in the youth-focused High Republic novels and comic books, but which has never been seen in live action.

The story sees the Jedi Order investigating a string of murders of their fellow Jedi, which leads one Jedi Master to pursue a former apprentice who appears to have turned to the Dark Side. But more is going on here, as the ancient evil known as the Sith appears to be returning.

Here’s the brand new trailer:

From Disney+:

In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems …

Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae star alongside Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

The new series comes from the production team that brought us the modern live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian, Andor, and Ahsoka. Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) created the series and serves as executive producer. She also directed the first two episodes.

Star Wars: The Acolyte will drop two episodes for its June 4 premiere on Disney+. New episodes will then drop weekly on Tuesdays, with an 8-episode season.
