Ratings Race: World Series Wallops Scripted TV, But Grimm Premieres Big

The 2013 World Series has had a noticeable impact on a number of shows over the past week, including the already-suffering shows such as Once Upon A Time In Wonderland. Four games were played last week in the series. On Sunday night, Game 4 combined with Sunday Night Football for more than 30 million viewers.

Nearly every show on our list of sci-fi and fantasy took a hit in last week’s ratings, baseball or no. But the one shining star of the week is Grimm, which opened its third season on Friday with a healthy boost over last season’s finale. Check out all the numbers below.

(There was no new Sleepy Hollow last week, so we’re not reporting its 3 million-and-some viewers for a repeat of the pilot episode.)

This week’s new season premiere is Grimm, and it’s 6.15 million topped last year’s premiere by 9 percent, and the spring finale by a stellar 23 percent. The Friday drama even beat Wednesday night’s new episode of Revolution, which continues its free-fall and probably ought to hurry along to the Friday schedule.

The Walking Dead continued to slide off its record-setting season premiere, though this week it faced the World Series and Sunday Night Football. As the show skews particularly young, a loss of only 7 percent is actually pretty good. Its DVR numbers should show a bounce-back.

Last week The CW enjoyed double-digit gains, but this week proved they were short-lived. The Tomorrow People dipped below 2 million to a series low — disappointing, since The CW’s first pure science fiction show has gotten off to a pretty good start creatively. It also now has the unfortunate distinction of broadcast television’s lowest-rated genre series.

Sleepy Hollow and S.H.I.E.L.D. are both on break this week. But when we hit November, look for the shows on this list to pull out all the stops to try and get their numbers up for sweeps.
