Flash! Arrow Now Casting Barry Allen

The character will debut in the eighth episode of the show’s upcoming season.

Just who is Barry Allen, and why is he coming to Starling City?

We’ve known since July that Arrow will be introducing the character and telling an origin story as he finds his way toward becoming the Flash. It’s part of The CW’s plan for a planted pilot for a possible Flash spin-off.

This week new details on the character have emerged. TV Line first reported some of this last month, but now the full character breakdown from which they quoted has been released:

BARRY ALLEN. Male, mid 20s – early 30s. Barry is a forensic analyst for the Central City Police Department’s CSI division. Barry is intelligent and likable, outwardly friendly and funny but with a hint of dark currents below the surface. He travels to Starling City while investigating a series of brutal slayings that he believes may have a connection to his mother’s murder years ago, a crime for which his father has been unjustly imprisoned.

Barry will make his first appearance in episodes eight and nine of the upcoming season, set to begin filming in Vancouver on September 30. He’ll then return near the end of Season Two in episode 20, which will function as the planted pilot for a spin-off.

The show also recently cast an important role: Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Spartacus, FlashForward) will play the DC comics character of Amanda Waller, an antagonist from the federal research agency A.R.G.U.S. who runs the villainous Suicide Squad.

The new season of Arrow premieres Wednesday, October 9 on The CW. Check out our growing Season Two episode guide!
