Gotham Casts Lucius Fox, Fish Hints At Her Future

Chris Chalk will join the series at the end of the season

Watch out for potential plot spoilers for the rest of Gotham’s first season.

Gotham has just cast a major character from the DC Comics universe, while the show may be getting ready to say goodbye to one of its lead villains.

Chris Chalk (12 Years A Slave, The Newsroom) will play Lucius Fox on the Batman prequel series. Fox is a young tech genius working for Wayne Enterprises, who emerges as a moral beacon for young Bruce Wayne in his desire to uphold his parents’ legacy. (The character was played by Morgan Freeman in Christopher Nolan’s Batman films.)

Chalk’s character will be introduced in the penultimate episode of the season (#21), with the option to return in Season Two.

Gotham has already been renewed. Its average 4.2 rating in Adults 18-49 and 10.6 million viewers in the fall made it this season’s top broadcast drama among Men 18-49 and Men 18-34.

Gotham (Season 1) - Fish MooneyMeanwhile, however, series co-star Jada Pinkett-Smith hinted during a recent appearance on Live With Kelly & Michael that her character Fish Mooney likely won’t be around for a second year. “I signed for a year, and the year is up,” she said. When asked if she was returning, the actress responded, “I don’t think so.”

When contacted by Deadline for comment, the show’s producers only said: “Fish Mooney’s storyline takes a lot of interesting twists and turns into the finale of season one of Gotham.”

Just how Fish’s story will play out over the rest of the season remains to be seen. Gotham airs Mondays at 8/7c on FOX.
