Syfy Renews Haven For Double-Sized Fifth Season

The 26-episode season will air in 2014 and 2015.

Syfy Channel is doubling down on its Friday drama Haven, ordering a huge, 26-episode fifth season.

Thirteen episodes will air this fall, followed by another 13 in 2015.

Based on the Stephen King novella The Colorado Kid, Haven follows FBI Agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) and the residents of a small Maine town plagued by supernatural phenomenon.

Rose will return along with co-stars Lucas Bryant and Eric Balfour when the show begins filming in Halifax, Nova Scotia this spring.

Syfy said that Season Four of the show saw ratings gains among adults 18 to 34 (up 11 percent year-to-year), and Adults 18 to 49 (up 3 percent). Haven has been averaging 2.3 million viewers per week, including DVR-delayed viewing.

As we’ve pointed out in the past, five seasons is the longest a Syfy Channel original scripted drama has ever run. That includes Stargate Atlantis, Eureka, and the recently cancelled Warehouse 13. The final episodes of the latter air this year.

  • It’s ridiculous the way they do that. They did it with Eureka, Warehouse 13… How can it be considered a “26 episode season 5” if it airs over two years? Why not just say “we’ve renewed it for two more 13 episode seasons”? Eureka essentially had 7 seasons. It just makes no sense, unless it’s just their way of sticking to the “5 season limit”, but that in itself would make no sense. As if to say “we won’t keep a show on more than 5 seasons, but we’ll happily run it for 7 years with each year having a roughly equal number of episodes”.

This is how SyFy cancels shows these days, They did it with W13 & Eureka. If Haven is very lucky they will get a few episode “6th season” to wrap things up like W13, if they are unlucky they will get ONE episode to wrap everything up like Eureka
