BBC America Wants More Atlantis
The U.S. broadcaster has picked up Season Two of the fantasy series.
The U.K. fantasy drama Atlantis is only one week old here in the States, but BBC America already wants more. The cable broadcaster picked up the show’s second season this week.
The series was renewed by the U.K.’s BBC One last month.
Atlantis follows Jason (Jack Donnelly) who, in search of his missing father, finds himself in the world of Greek mythology and the lost city of Atlantis. He joins forces with friends Hercules (Mark Addy) and Pythagoras (Robert Emms) for a series of adventures.
The U.S. premiere drew 838,000 viewers (Live + Same Day) — a record premiere for BBC America’s “Supernatural Saturday” block. The second episode airs tonight, while viewers in the U.K. will get episode 9.
Airing on a prime channel in the United Kingdom, there the series debuted to 7.3 million viewers.
“Atlantis is off to a fantastic start and is the centerpiece of our Saturday nights for the next twelve weeks,” said Richard De Croce, BBC America’s senior vice president of programming. “We’re committed to bringing our viewers even more entertaining episodes inspired by Greek mythology from Howard and the talented team in Season Two.”
The second season is expected to air next fall, with another 13 episodes.
