Syfy Cancels Alphas After Two Seasons

After 24 episodes, it’s the end of the road for another Syfy Channel series.

The cable network has cancelled Alphas, the show about a team of people not so much with “superpowers” as super-heightened human abilities. The show starred David Strathairn as the father of the recruitment program.

The show premiered in July 2011 to more than 2.5 million viewers, but in its Monday night time slot Alphas was never able to find and hold on to the same viewership that shows like the top-rated Warehouse 13 have enjoyed.

Season Two averaged around 1.3 million viewers.

While Syfy has focused its attention (and its production budget) on reality shows in recent years, it does have a number of new scripted dramas currently under consideration — including a remake of Blake’s 7, a new show from Ronald D. Moore called Helix, and a time travel concept called Rewind. Syfy’s next hopeful hit, Defiance, is getting ready to premiere in April.
