The CW Developing Mars Drama Red

Space meets the “neo-West” in the new project.

As if it’s four new genre shows weren’t enough to convince you that The CW is going big on science fiction and fantasy, the network has just purchased a new drama pitch set on Mars.

Red comes from The Mentalist creator and executive producer Bruno Heller and executive producer Tom Szentgyorgyi. The latter will write the project, which Deadline describes as “a neo-Western drama about the first human settlement on Mars and life on this new frontier, centering on the relationships between the town’s female sheriff, a doctor and a criminal.”

Szentgyorgyi’s other television credits include Journeyman, The Nine, and NYPD Blue.

Heller is also behind the just-announced FOX series Gotham (story).

We’ll keep our ears to the ground for more on Red as it works its way through the development pipeline this season. Watch this space!
