Two More Agents Join Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D.

Joss Whedon and team have cast two more agents for the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistic Directorate: Agents Gemma Simmons and Leo Fitz.

Actress Elizabeth Henstridge will play Gemma Simmons in the pilot for the potential ABC series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Her character is described as a science whiz.

Iain De Caestecker has been cast as Leo Fitz, a technology genius. The two are at the top of their respective fields despite their young age, and spend all their time together — having what looks to be a sort of brother-sister relationship.

The duo join previously announced cast members Ming-Na Wen, as Agent Melinda May, and Clark Gregg, who reprises his role from the Marvel feature films as Agent Phil Coulson.

Newcomer Henstridge is a native of Sheffield, England, whose list of credits includes the U.K. soap Hollyoaks. Twenty-five-year-old De Caestecker hails from Scotland, and has appeared in recurring roles on The Fades, Lip Service, and Coronation Street.

Whedon (Firefly, Dollhouse) is co-writing the pilot’s script with brother Jed Whedon and frequent collaborator Maurissa Tancharoen (also Jed’s wife), and plans to direct the pilot if his schedule permits.
