Babylon 5 Creator To Write Red Mars TV Series

J. Michael Straczynski is headed back to genre television

For fans of Babylon 5 or Kim Stanley Robinson’s acclaimed Red Mars trilogy of novels, this is big news indeed.

B5 creator, showrunner, and writer J. Michael Straczynski has been hired to write Red Mars, the television adaptation of the Nebula and Hugo Award-winning novels now in development at cable network Spike.

The hard science fiction series tells the tale of the colonization and terra-forming of Mars into a place where humans can live sustainably. Red Mars was published in 1993, followed by Green Mars in 1994 and Blue Mars in 1996.

Robinson is consulting, with Game of Thrones co-executive producer Vince Gerardis producing the potential series.

After several years working in feature film and comic books, Straczynski recently joined the Wachowskis as a co-writer and executive producer on Sense8, the new genre series coming to Netflix later this year.
