The Walking Dead Returns To Record Ratings

The AMC series is setting cable ratings records … again

If you had a feeling that The Walking Dead would return BIG when its fifth season began on Sunday — you were right.

The AMC drama has dominated cable ratings for years, setting record after record. The Season Five premiere adds another high-water mark, with “No Sanctuary” drawing nearly 17.3 million viewers (Live + Same Day).

That’s a 7 percent improvement over the previous record (Season Four‘s premiere, with 16.1 million), and includes an astonishing 11 million viewers in the key demographic of adults 18 to 49.

The Talking Dead aftershow held on to 6.9 million viewers.

The Walking Dead was renewed for a sixth season the week before the premiere.

New episodes continue Sunday nights at 9/8c on AMC.
