New Terminator TV Series In Development

The show would connect with the upcoming film franchise reboot.

The new owners of the Terminator feature film franchise aren’t just bringing it back to the big screen: they’re bringing the Terminator back to television.

Skydance Prods. and Annapurna Pictures have put a new Terminator TV series into development, with help from writers and executive producers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller. Their genre credits are extensive, from Fringe and Andromeda to Thor and X-Men: First Class.

The show would intertwine directly with the upcoming rebooted Terminator movie trilogy, the first installment of which will hit theaters in 2015. Movie scribes Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier will serve as executive producers on the TV series.

“The series will follow a critical moment from the original 1984 Terminator movie, taking it in a completely different direction that the film,” according to Deadline. “As the rebooted film trilogy and the new television series progress, the two narratives will be designed to intersect with each other.”

There’s no word yet on where the series might air.

It’s not the first time on television for the Terminator franchise, of course. FOX aired Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles for a season and a half between 2008 and 2009. That series (pictured above) starred Lena Headey as Sarah Connor, Thomas Dekker as a young John Connor, and Summer Glau as the Terminator “Cameron.”

The show was created by Josh Friedman, and its staff also included Stentz and Miller.

Casting of the role of Sarah Connor in the new movie is currently underway, with Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke reportedly on the short list.
