SciFi Stream looks at the genre pilots in contention for next season on the Peacock Network.

~—~

May is almost here, and that means the big broadcast networks in the U.S. are making their final decisions about the fall broadcast schedule.  Some shows will be renewed for another go, while others will be cancelled.  But in this series of posts we’ll look at those NEW shows that are vying for a slot on the 2013-14 schedule.

NBC had a hit this season with Revolution (just renewed for a second season), so it makes sense that they’d go back to the sci-fi and fantasy well to try and find another winner with viewers.  There are two genre series in contention, along with a number of other dramas.

BELIEVE
Producers: Alfonso Cuarón, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk
Writers: Alfonso Cuarón and Mark Friedman
Starring: Jake McLaughlin, Johnny Sequoyah, Delroy Lindo, Sienna Guillory, Jamie Chung, and Arian Moayed

Bo (Sequoyah) is a young girl in possession of great powers, which will fully come into their own in seven years. Tate (McLaughlin) is an escaped prisoner who must protect her from those trying to hunt her down.

THE SIXTH GUN
Producers: Carlton Cuse, Eric Gitter, and Andy Borne
Writers: Ryan Condal
Starring: Michiel Huisman, Laura Ramsey, W. Earl Brown, Graham McTavish, Aldis Hodge, Pedro Pascal, James LeGros, Chin Han, and Elena Satine

Adapted from the graphic novel, The Sixth Gun is a “supernatural Western” that follows the story of six mythical guns, each of which possesses its own other-worldly powers. When the most powerful and dangerous of the legendary weapons resurfaces in the hands of an innocent girl, Becky Montcrief (Ramsey), dark forces re-awaken. Huisman plays Drake Sinclair, a handsome rogue gunslinger who is searching for the gun because he believes it will lead him to an even greater treasure.

If We Had To Pick One Sight Unseen: THE SIXTH GUN. Cuse + a really original idea + graphic novel adaptation sounds like a fascinating show to follow.

Remember, these shows are currently at the pilot stage and they are up against non-genre contenders, as well — so there is no guarantee that either of them will be picked up to series.  But we will know before May is over.
