Sci-Fi Stream’s Top Shows of 2013!

We count down the most-viewed shows on our site in 2013

Game of Thrones (Season 3)It’s the time of year to be reflective … Your friends are posting their Top Albums and Favorite Books of 2013, and websites are counting down their biggest news stories and twerk-related shenanigans.

But instead of all that, we’d like to wrap up the year with a countdown of the top sci-fi and fantasy shows on SciFi Stream! It’s been a big year for our little site: at the end of the summer we rebooted the whole thing with a brand new design and lots more original news content.

We’ve continued to expand our episode guides for new genre shows. This year we’ve added full guides for shows such as Defiance, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Sleepy Hollow, Almost Human, The Tomorrow People, Atlantis, and Orphan Black. And, trust us … there are a LOT of new series to come in 2014!

Our list of the Top 13 shows of 2013 are based on page views, which means they are the shows that you (our visitors) love the most.  (We’ll also reveal our top news headlines for this year.)  Some of our episode guides are evergreen (people still regularly use our guides to Battlestar, Babylon 5, Farscape, and all the Star Trek series), and have been left off this list — which includes only shows that aired new episodes in 2013. But we’ll also include a list of the Top Off-Air shows on the final page.

Did your favorite show make the list?  Is it in the Top 3?  Is it Number 1?  Let’s find out!

13. SLEEPY HOLLOW

Sleepy HollowAbbie Mills and Ichabod Crane were the first out of the gate with their fall premiere, and they’ve been running at break-neck speed ever since. FOX’s Sleepy Hollow is one of the most creative and off-the-wall fantasy shows to hit network television in a long time, and it has already attracted a loyal fan base of “Sleepyheads.”

Add in a headless antagonist, National Treasure-style historical intrigue, a dose of magic, and John Noble for good measure … and you’ve got a hit. The show will wrap up its first season in January. But don’t worry — it will be riding back into town next fall.

12. WAREHOUSE 13

Warehouse 13Warehouse 13 has always been one of Syfy Channel’s biggest draws during the spring and summer months, but it was sure to leap up the rankings when the network announced in May that the upcoming (shortened) fifth season will be the last outing for Artie, Myka, Pete, Claudia, and Jinx. Season Four was an awful lot of fun, with the back half airing with 10 new episodes this year. The characters feel like family now, and we’re especially excited to see what the writers do with the fascinating new villain Paracelsus (Anthony Head).

11. ONCE UPON A TIME

Once Upon A TimeAfter what we thought was a weaker second season, Once came roaring back this year with a terrific opening half to the third season in the fall. The place: Neverland. The enemy: Peter Pan. The mission: Save Henry!

The ABC family fantasy also benefited a bit from a spin-off show, Once Upon A Time In Wonderland — which aired Thursdays this fall to lackluster ratings and 17th place on SciFi Stream.

NEXT: Cops, Survivors, And The Deadliest Game

I’m with you on Defiance. I watched every episode, but wish there was more depth to it. I would rate it ‘Meh, with promise.’ I hope next season gets grittier.

Yes, Continuum was a series that got grittier and developed things. I’m looking forward to season 3, whenever SyFy decides to show it.

Fallen Skies…I was a bit disappointed with season 3. If anything, they need to amp up the scifi and the aliens. Put the 2nd Mass back on the road, where they were more interesting and vulnerable. Sitting in an underground city, watching things happen ‘out there,’ was boring. Bring back the Fish Heads. More Mechs. More Skitters. More excitement!

Also, I’m sad to see Primeval: New World go after 1 season. While it was a slow starter, the 2nd half of the season really developed and picked up speed. The cast also came together and had some quality moments. I would’ve liked to have seen a 2nd season.
