Doctor Who Season Eight Won’t Start Till Next Fall
The Guardian reports that Peter Capaldi’s turn as the Doctor won’t get into full swing until late next year.
It’s not unexpected, but the news is still worth a big, long sigh.
Doctor Who won’t be back on the air for its eighth (modern) season until Autumn 2014, The Guardian reports. Season Eight will be the first for Twelfth (or is it Thirteenth?) Doctor Peter Capaldi, announced in a worldwide televised event last month (story).
The new season, which will also star Jenna Coleman as companion Clara, will reportedly begin shooting in January.
But don’t despair, Whovians: We still have the epic 50th anniversary special on November 23, plus this year’s Christmas special (Christmas Day). The former will pair the current Doctor, Matt Smith, and his companion with David Tennant, Billie Piper, and John Hurt. The Christmas special will see Smith’s Doctor regenerate.
Doctor Who has never been one for very consistent scheduling. By the end of Season Eight the show will have produced eight seasons and a series of special events over 10 and a half years.

What’s a season?
That would be what we in the US call one year or run of new episodes. The show in it’s entirety is called a series (all episodes of all seasons).
Americans say “season 8”, we say “series 8”. American say “a tv series”, we say “a tv show”.
