Bellamy is unsure who he can trust after he awakens on the outskirts of Arcadia, with only scattered memories of the past week. Fred's downward spiral is made worse by the return of his mother Margaret, the Langston family matriarch, dead more than three decades.

Fred and Bellamy suspect that Caleb may have returned to his old hunting cabin, while Margaret is disappointed to learn the fate of the Langston family factory. Janine hopes to salvage her marriage with Tom, and Bellamy discovers an ailing man who died in the 1930s -- but who did not return healed like the others.

Sensing a need in the community, Tom creates a new parish specifically for the returned and Bellamy decides to confide in him that he is also one of them. Meanwhile, old human bones mysteriously turn up in the river and with them, implications for the Langston family that Margaret is determined to keep hidden. (ABC)

On the anniversary of Jacob's death Margaret convinces Lucille to host a family dinner to turn herself around, and Henry invites Barbara. Bellamy investigates the identities of the bones found in the river, and Rachael receives unsettling news about her baby.

A mysterious illness hits the town, but only the Returned are infected. When Barbara tries to reconnect with Maggie and Fred, Margaret tries to interfere.

Now desperately ill, Bellamy reaches out to his government contact for help -- leading to revelations about his past and his family. Margaret's family members confront her about Barbara's disappearance, and Henry receives an offer from a newcomer.

Rachael must decide whether to put her child at risk by taking the only treatment available for the virus, which also strikes a non-Returned. Deputy Carl is drawn into the anti-Returned hate group, and Brian Addison takes an interest in Margaret.

With anti-Returned sentiment on the rise Tom's church becomes a refuge for Returned being turned away by their families, and Fred looks for a group calling themselves the "True Living." Margaret confronts Addison about his lineage, and Maggie may have found a way to combat the virus.

The town attempts to cope with the death of a beloved member of the community, while Rachael feels trapped by Janine. Maggie hopes to have found a cure for the virus, and Henry learns the truth about his mother's involvement in the factory fire so many years ago.

With a violent storm bearing down on the town the Langstons discover that Margaret has taken their son, leading to a desperate search. As Lucille copes with memories of the worst day of her life, a stranger arrives in Arcadia.

Suspicious of Preacher James and his motives, Bellamy warns him not to take advantage of the people of Arcadia. Meanwhile Margaret arrives at a government facility for the returned and finds that her reputation precedes her, and another tragedy befalls the Langston family.

The Returned are inexplicably drawn to Rachel, suggesting a stronger connection between them than anyone had realized. Margaret gains an audience with the government agent who oversees the captive Returned, and Preacher James is brought in to try and calm the people inside the facility.

Preacher James leads a mob siege on the Langston home, threatening to seize Rachel and stop her baby from being born -- with only Fred, Marty, and Henry left inside to try and hold off the crowd.
