ABC Cancels ‘Pushing Daisies,’ ‘Eli Stone’

It’s not exactly a surprise, but ABC has finally cancelled Pushing Daisies after a disastrous second season. The network has decided not to order any more episodes of Pushing Daisies along with Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money, according to Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello. All three shows were in their second season, and all three shows were suffering tremendously in the ratings. It’s all true, creator Bryan Fuller told Ausiello. I’m so very proud of this show and grateful for everyone’s hard work in bringing it to life. Pushing Daisies has averaged a 3.8 rating/6 share in overnights through six episodes, including a series low 3.1/5 Wednesday night, finishing behind even reality programming on The CW. Last season, Pushing Daisies was the third highest-rated …

Review: ‘Pushing Daisies’ – Oh Oh Oh … It’s Magic

This review contains MODERATE SPOILERS for “Oh Oh Oh…It’s Magic,” the sixth episode from the second season of ABC’s “Pushing Daisies.” “Oh Oh Oh … It’s Magic” is an episode of “Pushing Daisies” that has been waiting to happen. Take the fantasy of magic and illusions, mix it up with the usual trademarked “Pushing Daisies” wit and some colorful visuals and … . Indeed, the speeding train of dialogue is in full force in the episode, and if you fail to pay attention for at least one moment, you will be utterly lost. And while that is the shows greatest strength, it can also be its greatest weakness. Not to mention that the adventure regularly takes an unexpected sideways bend with a series of twists and turns but at no point becomes convoluted and watches as more like a bizarre tale. Even …

Pushing Daisies: Not Dead Yet

Oh, the tragedy! Yes, the ratings for ABC's cult show Pushing Daisies are tragic, and apparently everyone is becoming resigned to the fact that the series will be canceled at the end of its 13 episode season. Well, not this reporter!

Four Of Five Returning Genre Shows Struggling

Good news for “Supernatural” fans: Of the five returning fall genre shows, only The CW series starring Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles has a bigger audience over last year. In a review of Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research by SyFy Portal, over the first 10 active weeks of the 2008-09 television season, “Supernatural” has earned a 2.2 rating/3 share on average. That’s up nearly 16 percent from the 1.9/3 average “Supernatural” earned during the first 10 active weeks of the 2007-08 season. Four other shows weren’t so lucky, however. ABC’s “Pushing Daisies,” NBC’s “Heroes” and “Chuck,” and The CW’s “Smallville,” all have smaller average overnight audiences from the previous year, and nearly all of them are being beat by new genre shows. “Pushing Daisies” had …

Chenoweth Talks Daisies’ Future

Kristin Chenoweth, who plays Olive Snook on ABC's fantasy series Pushing Daisies, told SCI FI Wire that the show shot the final episode of its initial 13 for this season, but that there is still hope the show will continue in some form.

Fuller Awaiting Word On ‘Pushing Daisies’

The executive producer and creator of ABC’s whimsical drama “Pushing Daisies” is starting to get nervous. Reasonably so – rumors of cancellation are plaguing his show. “Every day we’re hearing that we’re canceled and then we hear that we’re not,” Fuller told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s all rumors. Nothing official at all. We’re in radio-silence land.” Despite the rumors spirits have remained strong on the set, Fuller said. “It’s infectious, and we’re hoping ABC gets infected by that dedication,” he said. Despite taking home three of its 15 Emmy nominations, the show’s second season ratings have been down. The writer’s strike has been blamed by some for “Pushing Daisies’” tough first season – only nine of the scripted 22 episodes of the show were ever filmed. This season, ABC isn’t …

Pushing Daisies Near Death?

TV Week, citing anonymous sources, reported that ABC may be close to pulling the plug on the critically acclaimed Pushing Daisies.

ABC Digs Grave For ‘Pushing Daisies’

Get ready to scratch the first genre series off the network program list. Rumors are swirling everywhere that ABC is canceling “Pushing Daisies” after its sophomore season imploded, and viewers who supported it during last year’s strike-shortened season, failed to return. ABC has denied it’s made any decision on the fate of the show, but TV Week says it’s almost certain that production will not resume on the Bryan Fuller series. “Pushing Daisies” didn’t air Wednesday night because of the Country Music Association awards show, but the show has managed only a 4.0 rating/6 share in overnights from Nielsen Media Research after five episodes. That’s down 36.5 percent from its 6.3/10 average last year that made it the genre’s third-most watched network program behind “Lost” and “Heroes.” …

Daisies Fans Campaign!

Fans of ABC's Pushing Daisies are donating hundreds of dollars in a campaign to send bouquets of--you guessed it--daisies to network executives to persuade them to keep the show alive.

‘Pushing Daisies’ On Brink Of Cancellation

“Pushing Daisies” is close to meeting a life found six feet under as the grim reapers start to close in. Reports are circulating through multiple channels that ABC will opt not to pick up a full season of the Bryan Fuller show, making next week’s filming the final week of filming. Further reports, including one from Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello, even has Fuller himself moving back to “Heroes” in an effort to save the NBC show that he helped get off the ground. But in what has turned into a rather zany season, it’s hard to tell what networks are going to do anymore. For example, it was widely reported that “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” was being pulled off the air, but at the last minute, Fox gave it a back-nine order, ensuring that there will be, at the very …

Review: ‘Pushing Daisies’ – Dim Sum Loose Sum

This review contains MODERATE SPOILERS for “Dim Sum Loose Sum,” the fifth episode from the second season of ABC’s “Pushing Daisies.”Stories of Pie Maker’s (Lee Pace) father have been floating about since the opening of the season, but until now these have been restricted to flashbacks, stories and subtle nudges to a future reunion. “Dim Sum Loose Sum” though brings the life of Ned’s father to the forefront of the series. And to the episodes credit, even at the forefront of the episode, Ned’s complicated relationship with his father are tastefully kept to the sidelines in favor of a more random and typically “Pushing Daisies” storyline; the death of a chef at the hands of a food steamer. This bizarre death of being killed by an exploding steamer is another creativity notch on the “Pushing Daisies” …

Review: ‘Pushing Daisies’ – Frescorts

This review contains MODERATE SPOILERS for “Frescorts,” the fourth episode from the second season of ABC’s “Pushing Daisies.”Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) was five months, three days and four hours old when his mother planned his death. This simple opening very colourfully introduces the life of “Pushing Daisies’” private investigator in tale of mystery, deep family secrets and a leaky corpse. The background and flashbacks of Emerson’s life is a nice change from the Piemaker’s (Lee Pace), but the whole frescort service plotline is nowhere near as fascinating as the suicidal nun in the bell tower that last week’s “Bad Habits.” Like last week however, the guest casting on the show keeps the story moving forward with enough humorous momentum that it is impossible to switch off. Worth particular …
