Twitter users have turned the microblogging service into the world's water cooler. The sci-fi community is well represented there, with fans, authors and actors moving in Kevin Bacon-like orbits around one another. Here are 11 of the coolest rising and established sci-fi people you're likely to meet.

Warren Ellis
The brilliant, and occasionally warped, mind behind Freak Angels, Planetary and Transmetropolitan has a twitterfeed that's antagonistic, insulting, never safe for work and always entertaining.

"Apparently I just gave a guy an anxiety/heart attack simply by responding to his tweet. I believe I like this new power"

Wil Wheaton
The once and future Wesley Crusher—not to mention prolific blogger—has amassed an impressive legion of followers on Twitter (25,759 at last count).
The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS for the episode "From Fear To Eternity” on the SciFi Channel series "Eureka." Another week, another pregnancy. In a move that shocks probably nobody, Allison Blake is pregnant. Okay, so that wasn't the main point of the episode. The main point was Zoey started again due to the radiological exposure she suffered in a previous episode. Carter had a couple staredowns with Eva Thorn but not who turned out not to be so evil after all. She helped Carter save Zoey and Zane save the town (and his relationship with Deputy Lupo). Oh, and they had this really cool nano-foam. And did I mention Carter got fired? If all of that makes very little sense, forgive me. It was, in fact, not a bad episode, but the events did run together a bit. I actually found it enjoyable, ...

The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS for the episode "Here Come The Suns" from the SciFi Channel series "Eureka." This episode was one of, if not the best episodes of "Eureka" this season. Considering that the bar has been set so low with predominately lackluster episodes this season, that isn’t much of a compliment. Playing on the title of the classic Beatles tune "Here Comes the Sun," a model of the solar system gets out of control (big surprise), and Eureka ends up with an extra sun to deal with. While the writers let the Beatles’ reference slip by without a mention, we do learn that Lexi is pregnant with twin sons, so some clever word play is afoot in this episode. The episode unfolds in predictable "Eureka" fashion. Now that Stark is gone, Jack's sidekick this time around is ...

The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS for the episode "Phased And Confused" from the SciFi Channel series, "Eureka." With the popularity of superhero/comic-book characters on the big and small screen, it was only a matter of time before the town of Eureka got their own hero. Sheriff Carter's sister Lexi is popular with the guys in Eureka. This week, the guy attracting the most attention is wearing a bright blue cape, jet boots and a device that allows him to phase through solid objects. Dubbed "Captain Eureka" by Lexi, the hero stumbles his way into her attention, often causing more damage than the original problem, which annoys Sheriff Carter especially since his police vehicle is yet again damaged if you haven't noticed it yet, (this is a running gag on this show). At one of his rescues, ...

Maybe J.J. Abrams wasn't so evil after all. The director of the upcoming 11th installment in the Star Trek movie franchise, said efforts were made to bring William Shatner into the fold like his good friend Leonard Nimoy, but a series of issues -- including demands being made by the Emmy-winning actor himself -- scuttled such a possibility before it could even get off the ground. Abrams told AMCTV.com that Abrams and his writing crew very much wanted to include Shatner, best known for playing Capt. Kirk in the original "Star Trek" series as well as seven movies. However, Abrams couldn't offer Shatner the role size he was seeking to take part. "The bigger thing was that he was very vocal that he didn't want to do a cameo," Abrams said. "We tried desperately to put him in the movie, but ...

The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS for the episode "Show Me the Mummy" from the SciFi Channel series, "Eureka." This episode was a bit of a departure than the normal episode of "Eureka." Instead of focusing on some new technology gone awry, this one tackled the ancient lore of Egyptian mummies and curses in an entertaining, yet uneven fashion. Despite the difference in focus, it was pretty much business as usual in "Eureka." That isn’t necessarily bad, but it is getting to be a bit too routine. In the first "Post-Stark" episode, Stark somehow managed to return, albeit in the form of a hologram he programmed onto Allison's necklace. What's this have to do with mummies? Absolutely nothing. But for some odd reason, Stark kept appearing to Allison and only at the end did she discover ...
