Beware of SPOILERS for Caprica in this review!

The Battlestar Galactica prequel series has been given a green light, and premieres in 2010 on the SCI FI Channel. In the meantime, the studio has released the pilot movie on DVD for eager fan consumption. And it’s a damn good idea.

The pilot sat with SCI FI for quite a while before they committed to the series, and that doesn’t come as a big surprise. Caprica is dramatically different. … Dramatically, get it? No? Unlike its predecessor (or anything else on the network), the series falls squarely into the “family drama” genre. The show is about people, not space ships — love, not time travel.

First look at <i>Iron Man 2</i> USA Today has posted the first look at Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man 2 (above), as well as director Jon Favreau's comments on the sequel's themes. The sequel began shooting three weeks ago in and around Los Angeles and opens May 7, 2010. It takes place six months after Stark revealed his identity as Iron Man, Favreau told the newspaper. "How many superheroes are open about their true identities?" he asks. "We wanted to play with that idea. But it obviously has consequences—in his relationships, on the team. There are a lot of areas we can explore."

The residents of Vulcan, Alberta, may have actor Leonard Nimoy to thank for their special sneak preview screening of “Star Trek XI” in nearby Calgary, but when they arrive to see the latest J.J. Abrams film, they will have a chance to celebrate another actor from the show. Bruce Greenwood, who plays Capt. Christopher Pike in the movie, will meet with 300 randomly selected residents of Vulcan who are attending the premiere next week. “With Bruce Greenwood adding some Hollywood glamor to Vulcan’s special advance screening of ‘Star Trek,’ we feel very honored by all that Paramount Pictures is arranging for us,” said Dayna Dickens, the tourism coordinator for Vulcan, in a release. Greenwood, who was born in Canada, is stepping in for Nimoy who had to be in New York the night of the premiere …

<i>Star Trek</i>'s Chris Pine on how he took over the role of James Kirk

Chris Pine, who takes on the iconic role of James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek, told SCI FI Wire that the main challenge in rebooting the franchise was to create a first adventure that appealed to longtime fans and also brought new fans into the fold.

Pine steps into William Shatner's boots in the May 8 release, playing a young version of Kirk. In the film, Kirk begins to emerge as the man who'll become a legendary Starfleet captain and barrels into action with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, which includes Spock (Zachary Quinto), Dr. McCoy (Karl Urban) and Uhura (Zoe Saldana).
