‘Smallville’ – Turbulence

Given their absence from the series over the last few weeks, the return of Doomsday (Sam Witwer) and Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) should have come as a mythology infused outing. Instead, “Turbulence” is hampered by its own narrow vision and depends too much on idle dialogue and E.R. based antics.

Ashmore does a brilliant job as the obsessive and determined Jimmy Olsen, however the events that lead to his final argument with Chloe (Allison Mack) depend to heavily on his fragile state following with his wedding night encounter with Doomsday and enough pain killers to put the Man-of-Steel out for the count. His midnight shenanigans don’t come with the same razor sharp edge that Bloom’s twilight activities have and unfold at a somewhat disjointed pace with low-level gore.

Overall, the …

Scottish Police Want To Resurrect Tardis-Like Police Boxes

Traveling through time could be a nifty way to stomp out crime, but unfortunately the blue police boxes of the real world don’t have that option. Still, that isn’t stopping Scottish police from returning to the “Doctor Who” iconic boxes, which fell ou of style not long after the debut of the the series in the early 1960s. Edinburgh police are reviving the blue boxes – some of which have not been used in more than 40 years – and will have a police officer stationed in the enclosed location during peak times. In addition to providing a place for members of the public to seek assistance, these boxes will be able to deal with crime reports and also lost property. And for police officers who are busy on the beat, the boxes will also act as a rest spot for a tea break or a place to do some quick …

SciFi Prez Acknowledges SyFy Portal, But Not Origins

SciFi Channel president Dave Howe barely had a chance to finish his opening statement when Media Blvd’s Kenn Gold asked the question that it seems the network has been dodging since it announced it created the name “Syfy” last week: Where did this brand come from? “I don’t think that’s the case that we’re not acknowledging” SyFy Portal, Howe told reporters during a conference call Monday that did not include Airlock Alpha. “We’ve been actively working on this brand evolution for the last two years. We have explored a lot of name options.” That included coming up with name possibilities and then checking for URLs containing those names and if they can be trademarked. “Once we looked at alternative names, our existing name, changing the orders of the letters, it became apparent to …

It stars Eric Stoltz as Daniel Graystone, the creator of the Cylons; Esai Morales of “Jericho” fame as Joseph Adama, father to William Adama; Paula Malcomson of “Deadwood” and Polly Walker. The first clip is Stoltz’s Graystone visiting a virtual world that his daughter seemed to frequent quite a bit with her friends. Get a look at some of the technology Caprica has so …

New ‘Star Trek XI’ Commercial Out For ‘Heroes’

Forget the money Paramount Pictures spent to produce the latest “Star Trek” movie. The money it’s spending to promote the film is blowing it away. The fun part for fans? It’s just getting started. With less than two months to go before its widely anticipated release, Paramount has released a new television trailer to air during “Heroes” on NBC and other programs. This new release features a couple lines from the most recent trailer attached to “Watchmen” a few weeks back, but has some added scenes including a new planet being demolished by some kind of blast wave, and a shirtless Eric Bana as the Romulan (sorry, ladies … seems to be only head and shoulders). No need to wait to see what show the film preview is attached to. You can watch it right here. “Star Trek XI” hits theaters …
