Russell T. Davies successfully blended the old with the new during his four-year run as “Doctor Who’s” showrunner, but when Steven Moffat takes over in 2010, fans shouldn’t expect nostalgia and returning characters … instead, they’ll receive plenty of new stories and new monsters.
“We’re not in the business of being nostalgic; we’re making nostalgia for the future, new monsters, new friends,” he told fans at the recent Comic-Con in San Diego. “‘Doctor Who’ is at its best when it’s brand new, and you’ve always got to remember that there’s a new bunch of eight-year-olds watching every year and it has to be original — it has to belong to them,” he said. …

Will The Legion Visit ‘Smallville’?
The following contains MODERATE SPOILERS for Season 8 of The CW program, “Smallville.” The Legion of Super-Heroes will be paying a visit to “Smallville” during the show’s upcoming eighth season and, as luck would have it, the popular writer for one of their upcoming comic book appearances will be the one bringing them onto the show. Geoff Johns is the scribe of next month’s “Final Crisis: Legion Of 3 Worlds” mini-series for DC Comics, and it was announced during the recent San Diego Comic-Con that he will also be the man behind introducing the Legion to the TV series in its ninth episode of the season, entitled “Legion.” “I’ve known the ‘Smallville’ writing team - Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, Brian Wayne Peterson and Kelly Souders - for a long time,” Johns told Newsarama. …

X-Men To Get ‘First Class’ Movie Treatment?
There might be three Marvel mutant movies in the works, according to Production Weekly. Based on the comic book with the same name, “X-Men: First Class” has been mentioned in a list of films in development by 20th Century Fox, as reported by the IGN Filmforce website. The comic focuses on the early years of the first five X-Men — Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Beast and Angel. Of course, the other two “X-Movies” in the pipeline are “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” scheduled to slice into theaters in 2009, and a Magneto spin-off that is expected to attract moviegoers in 2010. Although Marvel Studios has their own line-up of films in production, including a sequel to “Iron Man,” a “Thor” movie and another based on Captain America, several Marvel properties are still licensed to other production …
‘Jericho’ Star Finds New Home In ‘The Prisoner’
Obviously, it takes a village to showcase Lennie James’ talents. The star best known to genre fans for playing the enigmatic Robert Hawkins in CBS’ “Jericho” will be starring in an American Movie Channel (AMC) remake of the classic 1960s show, “The Prisoner,” according to Zap2it.com. This time, it won’t be a town in the midwestern United States that will be the center of attention. Instead, James will play Number 147, who lives in a mysterious village where Number 6, a former spy played by Jim Caviezel, has been imprisoned. Also starring on the six-hour mini-series will be Golden Globe nominee Ruth Wilson, Jamie Campbell-Bower and Hayley Atwell. Bill Gallagher is writing the scripts for the program.”The Prisoner” is being created by AMC in conjunction with British broadcaster ITV …
